Not as Old as I Am

I just had my yearly wellness exam and the doctor said I was in better shape than most 60 year-olds he sees. That is always good to hear. People are always surprised when I tell them my age. I attribute this to exercising. I started exercising in earnest when I turned 40 mostly for weight control. I trained and competed in 5 triathalons and often ran 3-5 miles a day. Then my weight and aging and damaged knees (skiing can do a number) caught up with me and I had to stop running on a regular basis. Then I started riding my road bike as my major form of excercising. I try to ride to work every day March-October. I find this to be a great way to handle my stress. I wind down from work on my afternoon ride and gear up for work on my ride into work in the morning. During the winter months I take a spinning class 3-4 times a week. It has been hard to find something to do the other 3 days a week. I used to swim 1-2 times until my shoulder surgery. I was at a loss as to what to do. I tried and found that I can walk 30-45 minutes every other day and my knees can handle that OK. I hope to start swimming again as soon as my shoulder feels good enough. There is always a way to excercise every day if you are determined to find something thats works for you. Remember no matter what never give up.

  1. Another great incentive to start working some kind of exercise into our daily lives! Who wouldn't want to feel and look younger??? Thanks for the extra nudge!
